The Headquarters 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, on Wednesday, disclosed that a board of inquiry has been constituted to investigate the alleged killing of a labourer attached to the Ogun State Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning, during a demolition exercise at a site in Orile Imo area of the State.

In a statement signed by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, Major Idereghi Samuel Akari, said the Army headquarters would be impartial and thorough in its investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Recall that a labourer attached to a team from the Ministry was allegedly shot dead by a soldier in the face of an argument that ensued as a result of carrying out a demolition order.

The Brigade commiserated with the family and associates of the victims, promising that the findings of the inquiry board would be made public.

The statement reads, “Headquarters 35 Artillery Brigade has taken cognisance of allegations surrounding an incident at a demolition site at Ganic Company, Orile-Imo, Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway, Ogun State, on 23 February 2026, involving a soldier and a labourer, reportedly resulting in a fatality.

“The Brigade acknowledges the gravity of the situation and extends its sincerest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased. Consequently, a Board of Inquiry has been promptly constituted to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“The Brigade is committed to transparency and accountability; hence, the findings of the investigation will be made public as soon as possible. We therefore appeal to the general public and the media to please remain calm as we promise to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.”
