… to remit N6bn to govt

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set a target of N23.8billion in internally generated revenue (IGR) for 2026.

The figure is N4bn higher than the 2025 target, according to Dr Muftau Bello, a director in the Office of the Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

He presented the 2026 IGR target and other budgetary proposals to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND in Abuja on Wednesday.

In his address, the JAMB representative stated that N6bn of the targeted IGR would be remitted to the federal government.

“A total of N30.6bn budget profile is proposed by JAMB in 2026, out of which N23.8bn is to be generated internally and N6bn to be remitted into the Federation Account as operating surplus for the year,” he said.

Earlier, Bello reported on the 2025 performance to the committee, which is chaired by Senator Muntari Dandutse, noting that JAMB generated N18.5bn in IGR and remitted N4bn as operating surplus.

On preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), he announced the creation of 1,000 examination centres, far more than the fewer than 800 used in 2025.

The committee, impressed by JAMB’s performance under Oloyede’s leadership, gave the board high marks from the chairman to the members.

However, Senator Yohanna Amos (Adamawa-North) urged JAMB to lower its current N3,500 examination fee. Bello responded that the fee was previously N5,000 and later reduced to N3,500 by the current registrar.
