The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Lagos Region, on Sunday, successfully commissioned a new 300MVA power transformer at its 330/132/33kV Egbin Transmission Substation in Lagos State.

The addition has increased the substation’s capacity from 300MVA to 450MVA, thereby enhancing bulk power availability for Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) to off-take to its customers in Ikorodu, Shagamu, Ijede, and environs.

The General Manager (Transmission), Lagos Region, Engineer Adeshina Adeonipekun, stated that the project, which was completed in-house by TCN engineers in a record-breaking six weeks, is aimed at strengthening the transmission network and improving power delivery nationwide.

In the same vein, the Company has also successfully returned the 330kV Shiroro–Mando Transmission Line 2 to service following the completion of repair works.

The line was energised after TCN engineers concluded extensive technical interventions aimed at ensuring the integrity and operational reliability of the infrastructure. The restoration was executed with strict adherence to safety and quality standards.

With Line 1 and 2 now operational, both circuits of the Shiroro, Mando 330kV transmission corridor are fully functional. This restoration reinforces bulk electricity transmission to Kaduna Electric’s franchise area, enhances network flexibility and strengthens overall system reliability.

“The return of both lines marks a significant milestone in TCN’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the transmission backbone and ensure reliable electricity delivery across its network.

“TCN sincerely appreciates the cooperation and understanding of customers and stakeholders during the outage period and reaffirms its commitment to building a resilient and efficient national grid,” a statement signed by the general manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah read.
