The United States (US) Embassy in Abuja has issued a warning to American citizens in Nigeria about a possible terrorist threat targeting US facilities and schools.

According to reports, the embassy has been on heightened alert since the U.S. and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran.

The embassy advised US citizens to take extra precautions when visiting US diplomatic missions, including the embassy in Abuja and the consulate in Lagos, urging them to vary their travel routes and times.

“US citizens should take additional precautions when traveling to the embassy in the capital Abuja and the U.S. consulate in the commercial capital Lagos and U.S.-affiliated schools,” ‌the embassy said.

The embassy, according to its release, has not shared specifics about the threat, but Nigerian authorities have recently boosted security in Abuja amid warnings of pro-Iranian protests, citing how a sizable Shi’ite Muslim minority in Northern Nigeria influenced by Iran has dragged thousands to the streets to march in support of Iran.

Recall that Tribune Online reported that the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on Saturday, February 28, with the first apparent strike happening near the offices of Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iranian media reported strikes nationwide, and smoke could be seen rising from the capital.

Since the first attacks, the war has continued in the Middle East affecting other gulf countries where the US has its military bases.
