The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and resilient amid the nation’s economic and security challenges, expressing optimism that the country will overcome its current difficulties.
In an Easter message issued in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bamofin Johnson, described Nigeria’s present situation as a dark Friday that will inevitably give way to a “resurrection morning.”
Johnson said this year’s Easter celebration comes at a time of deep national strain, marked by economic hardship and persistent insecurity across several parts of the country.
He particularly lamented the spate of killings and attacks in Plateau State and other troubled regions, noting the pain and loss experienced by many families.
“Our hearts are heavy as we reflect on the senseless killings and attacks in Plateau State and other troubled regions across the federation,” he said. “We remember those who have suffered, those who have been displaced, and families marking this holy season with empty chairs at their tables.”
The NNPP spokesperson, however, urged citizens not to allow the challenges or perceived failures of leadership to dampen their spirit, drawing parallels between Nigeria’s situation and the Easter message of hope and renewal.
According to him, the symbolism of Easter reflects the triumph of light over darkness, stressing that the country’s current struggles are temporary and surmountable.
“The stone of poor governance, economic instability, and fear currently blocking our path to greatness will be rolled away,” Johnson stated, reaffirming the party’s commitment to building what it described as a “New Nigeria.”
He said the NNPP envisions a country where the security of lives and property is guaranteed, and where leadership prioritises service to the people rather than personal enrichment.
Johnson also called on Nigerians to use the Easter period for reflection and prayers for national peace and unity, while encouraging active participation in the democratic process to shape a better future.
“The cross came before the crown. Though we endure the cross of bad governance today, the crown of a prosperous and secure Nigeria is within our reach if we do not lose hope,” he added.
The NNPP concluded its message by urging citizens to remain united and steadfast, expressing confidence that Nigeria will emerge stronger from its present challenges.
