CP has given assurance that the matter would be investigated — Oba Ladoja

SUSPECTED herders have killed a 47 year old farmer in Asa village in Okelade area, in Ido Local Government Area.

The victim, who was identified as Chief Mutairu Oladosu, Otun Balogun Oluode Okelade, was murdered while working on his tomatoes farm.

The herders, according to an eyewitness, invaded the farm in large numbers to launch an unprovoked attack on the victim.

Oladosu, who was with one of his daughters, was overpowered by the fully armed attackers.

Confirming the incident, the Okelade Okin of Okelade, Oba Wahab Olabamiji, said the attack was carried out by three herders.

Oba Olabamiji said one of the suspects had been arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.

He said: “We are here at the palace of the Olubadan to inform Oba Rashidi Ladoja about what is going on in our various communities in Ido Local Government Area.

“The herders are not only grazing on our farms, but they have also become a source of threat to dwellers.

“The people in the area can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed again because of the fear of the herders.

“Last Friday, Oladosu was hacked to death by the herders while working in his tomatoes farm.

“I prevailed on my people not to allow the incident to snowball into a major crisis, hence the visit to the Olubadan.

“We are happy with the timely intervention of Oba Ladoja.”

While speaking, Oba Ladoja said he got wind of the attacks through the leadership of the community.

“I was informed that one Mutairu Oladosu was murdered by suspected herders in Asa village in Ido Local Government Area.

“I invited the commissioner of police in the state to the palace over the incident, and he said one of the suspects had been arrested, while others are being trailed.

“The CP gave assurance that the matter would be duly investigated, while justice will be served on whoever is found guilty of the killing,” he said.
