A man, Waidi, has approached Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of his marriage to his wife, Khalifa, whom he described as troublesome, stubborn, arrogant, and disrespectful.
The plaintiff alleged that the defendant constantly challenged his authority in the home and was unwilling to submit to him.
According to him, she always insisted on having her way and rarely accepted responsibility for her mistakes.
Waidi further told the court that Khalifa never ceased quarrelling with him and often treated his relatives with contempt.
He added that she frequently insulted members of his family, a situation he found unbearable.
He, therefore, urged the court to dissolve their marriage, stating that he had become fed up with his wife’s conduct.
Khalifa, however, consented to the dissolution of their marriage.
Giving evidence before the court, Waidi said:
“I am tired of my marriage and no longer derive any joy from our union. This is why I have come to court.
“Khalifa and I contracted an Islamic marriage, and I paid her bride price.
“Since she moved into my home, she has consistently sought to challenge my authority.
“She always wants things done her way and has refused to be submissive.
“My wife is stubborn and disregards my instructions whenever she chooses.
“She never admits when she is wrong and hardly apologises for her actions. She finds it hard to say ‘sorry’.
“She quarrels with me at every opportunity and has made life unbearable for me.
“Khalifa dislikes my relatives.
“She insults them and treats them with disdain whenever they come around.
“I no longer wish to continue in this marriage and therefore pray the court to dissolve our union.”
