ECONOMIC analysts and development stakeholders have called for greater clarity on the implementation of the World Bank Group’s newly unveiled Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for Nigeria, following the announcement of a $1.25 billion financing package aimed at supporting private sector-led growth, job creation and economic diversification between 2026 and 2032.

The new framework is designed to unlock private investment as a key driver of economic expansion and employment generation, building on recent macroeconomic reforms that have improved growth prospects, government revenues and investor confidence. The initiative seeks to address structural constraints and ensure that economic gains translate into improved living standards for Nigerians.

Public policy analyst Tunde Daniel welcomed the partnership but stressed the need for a detailed implementation roadmap to ensure that its benefits reach ordinary citizens. He noted that transparency and accountability would be crucial to the programme’s success.

A key component of the CPF focuses on expanding access to critical infrastructure and social services. The programme targets electricity access for 32 million people, broadband connectivity for 58 million Nigerians, and improved health, nutrition and agricultural services nationwide. The World Bank said the investments are expected to boost productivity and strengthen human capital development.

Agriculture and the digital economy have been identified as priority sectors. The framework seeks to improve farmers’ access to inputs, increase productivity and support regulatory reforms that encourage growth in digital services while reducing reliance on oil revenues.

Commenting on the initiative, agribusiness entrepreneur Dr. Phillip Omorodion warned that previous agricultural intervention programmes had often failed to reach genuine farmers. He urged the World Bank to closely monitor implementation to prevent diversion of resources.

The financing package will support reforms in capital markets, energy sector restructuring, trade facilitation, domestic revenue mobilisation and governance. World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Mathew Verghis, said the framework would focus on creating more and better jobs through private sector-led growth, while Dahlia Khalifa emphasised the need to attract investment and improve productivity.

Analysts, however, cautioned that effective implementation, stronger revenue mobilisation and sustained structural reforms would be essential for the framework to deliver lasting economic benefits.
