The Benue State Police Command has commenced investigation into the killing of Professor Gabriel Nyityo and his younger brother, John Nyityo.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said a 23-year-old man identified as Abdullahi Usman had been arrested in connection with the assassination of the university don and his brother.
In a terse statement issued on Thursday and made available to newsmen in Makurdi, the PPRO said officers at D Division received a distress call along the Adaka axis, where they found two dead bodies.
The statement further read, “One Prof Gabriel Saawua Nyityo ‘m’ 58yrs and his younger brother one lorngee John Nyityo ‘m’ 19yrs were killed by unknown gunmen.
“The suspect one Abdullahi Usman 23yrd of Awe in Nasarawa state has been arrested in connection to the crime and investigation is still goings-on to get the remaining suspects please,” the PPRO said in the statement.
Professor Nyityo was killed in the early hours of Wednesday at his residence alongside his younger brother, John Nyityo, in Adaka community, Makurdi Local Government Area of the state.
