Defence Headquarters has said that the gallant troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria recorded significant successes in operations across the country within a week (July 3 to 9).
This led to the rescuing of kidnapped victims, killing of a wanted terrorist leader, and dismantling of illegal oil refining sites.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a press statement made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja.
The statement said that the troops of Operation HADIN KAI rescued six abducted farmers in Borno State, dismantled terrorist logistics facilities, and arrested suspected ISWAP informants and logistics suppliers.
It added that the troops also rescued two more abductees, recovered ransom money, and arrested a wanted criminal in Adamawa State with an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.
According to the statement, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA recovered weapons, rustled livestock, and materials suspected to be for the fabrication of improvised explosive devices during operations in Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.
The statement further added that Operation WHIRL STROKE troops neutralised a wanted terrorist kingpin identified as Puuga in Benue State, recovered 249 rustled cattle in Kogi State, and rescued several kidnapped victims in Benue and Kogi States, respectively.
It further disclosed that Operation DELTA SAFE rescued 37 traders from sea pirates in Akwa Ibom, dismantled illegal refining facilities in Rivers State, and recovered more than 205,000 litres of stolen crude oil and illegally refined petroleum products.
In the South-East, it said troops raided criminal hideouts, recovered weapons and fake military uniforms, and destroyed an illegal oil bunkering site containing 70 illegal pits in Abia State.
It further explained that the Air Component supported operations by facilitating the escape of about nine kidnapped victims in Niger State and conducted air strikes against terrorists transporting more than 100 rustled cattle.
It pointed out that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, commended troops for their bravery and urged Nigerians to continue supporting the military with timely and credible information.
