The management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, has expelled two students over alleged involvement in gay practice and rusticated four others for one academic session for engaging in fighting on the campus.
The Information, Public Relations and Protocols Unit of the university disclosed the disciplinary actions in a statement issued on Friday, saying the sanctions followed resolutions reached by the institution’s Senate.
According to the statement, the decisions were approved during the 31st Regular Meeting of the University Senate held at the Faculty of Law Lecture Theatre after the Senate considered recommendations submitted by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
The university said letters conveying the disciplinary measures were signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Mr. Eli Usman Gbadafu, and issued in line with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook, Second Edition, as amended in 2025.
The students expelled are Onumoko Hamza, with matriculation number 23L1BE0945 of the Department of Biology Education, and Abdulazeez Lukman Eneji, with matriculation number 23L1MN0088 of the Department of Mining Engineering. Both were sanctioned over alleged gay practice.
The four students rusticated for one academic session over fighting are Favor Akowe, matriculation number 24L1MC2212 of the Department of Microbiology; Simbiat Babamuharuna, matriculation number 25L1BL4453 of the Department of Biology; Zainab Salami Omayoza, matriculation number 24L1BC1277 of the Department of Biochemistry; and Sukura Bukola, matriculation number 25L1BC4352, also of the Department of Biochemistry.
The management reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline, maintaining order and providing an environment conducive to teaching and learning.
It also warned that any student found to have breached the institution’s rules and regulations would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The university further advised students to acquaint themselves with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook and comply with the institution’s rules and regulations.
