The Zamfara state Agro Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) Project has moved to improve food security, distributed seedlings, fertilisers, and farm inputs to about 1,000 beneficiaries in the state.

Speaking shortly after the distribution exercise in Gusau, the state capital, the Zamfara state Project Coordinator, Nasiruddeen Bello, revealed that the support was given to project catchment areas to compliment community driven development in the state.

According to him, the assistance on livelihood comprises agricultural farm inputs and insecticides, improved seeds, assorted fertilisers to benefit community members.

“This livelihood support was provided to strengthen and complement ongoing Community-Driven Development (CDD) initiatives for the benefiting communities under the ACReSAL project,” he stated.

The state project coordinator further explained that the support was targeted to groups from ACReSAL restoration sites, including the Bulka 5.6km drainage site, in Gusau.

“The 30 benefiting communities have 28 beneficiaries each that include religious leaders, traditional leaders, youth leaders, and women leaders across the catchment areas,” he said.

It was gathered that prior to the formal distribution exercise, the ACReSAL team had sensitised communities on the need for beneficiaries to sustain the project’s investment and maintain the ACReSAL slogan, ‘Greening the environment, saving lives’.

Before the distribution, the groups were sensitised on the need to protect and sustain ACReSAL investments in their communities.

They were also urged to collaborate and lend their support to the upcoming drainage construction project at the Bulka site.

Beneficiaries have also expressed their appreciation to the Zamfara ACReSAL project coordinator, Mallam Nasiruddeen Bello, for the prompt and timely disbursement under the present administration of Governor Dauda Lawal, for the exemplary leadership commitment and dedication to community development initiatives in the state.
