A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump to support diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring credible general elections in Nigeria in 2027.

In an open letter titled “No Mandate From Fraud: Election 2027,” Frank urged the US government to support measures that promote electoral integrity, including encouraging accountability for electoral offences.

He called for engagement with Nigerian political leaders and electoral authorities ahead of the elections to strengthen public confidence in the process.

Frank expressed concerns about public perceptions of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and said early diplomatic engagement would help build trust in the electoral process ahead of the polls.

“The time to act is before the elections, not after,” he said, calling for proactive engagement to support electoral integrity.

He urged Washington to consider deploying a high-level delegation to Nigeria and to work with international partners to encourage commitment to a credible electoral process.

Frank said electoral officials, judicial officers and security personnel have important roles in safeguarding elections and should be encouraged to uphold neutrality and professionalism.

He stressed that security agencies should remain politically neutral and protect voters regardless of political affiliation.

He linked credible elections to accountable leadership, economic development and national stability, adding that improved governance could address some of the factors influencing migration.

Frank said his proposal was aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in areas such as security, energy development and economic partnership.

He urged the Trump administration to make electoral integrity a priority in its diplomatic engagement with Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
