Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has said the state has not experienced any terrorist or bandit attacks in recent years, noting that security agencies have been able to contain threats despite occasional cases of kidnapping.

The governor made the disclosure during a media chat in Akure while responding to questions on security and political developments in the state.

According to him, the state has remained largely peaceful since the tragic attack on worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, during the Owo church massacre.

Aiyedatiwa, however, acknowledged that there have been isolated cases of kidnapping for ransom but assured residents that security agencies are actively working to tackle the menace and ensure the safe release of victims.

“We’ve not experienced any terrorist attacks. I said that we have isolated cases of kidnapping for ransom; it’s happening, but we have to engage.

“The security agencies have to engage to ensure that those who are kidnapped are released and the perpetrators are tracked,” the governor said

The governor spoke on the security situation while also addressing issues surrounding the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state following reports of violence during recent party stakeholders’ meetings and ward congresses.

He dismissed claims of internal division within the party, insisting that the APC in the state remain united despite the tensions that trailed the party’s internal activities.

Aiyedatiwa also dismissed claims of division within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state following reports of violence that trailed recent stakeholders’ meetings and ward congresses.

He also clarified his relationship with the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, denying speculations of a rift between them and describing himself as a father figure to political actors across the state.

“For me, I’ve no problem with the Minister of Interior, and I don’t think he has with me either. There are followers who are looking for one thing or the other.

“So, whoever they think can help them to achieve their desired goal or position, they will tend to relate with such a person. For me, I’m a father to all,” he said.

The governor’s remarks come amid broader debates over his future political ambition and the constitutional interpretation of succession and tenure following the death of his predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
