Bauchi State government is set to recover billions of naira allegedly misappropriated by certain individuals, following the approval of the state executive council to commence recovery proceedings.
The decision was announced by the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Hassan El-Yakub, while briefing journalists at the council meeting, held at Governor’s Office in Bauchi.
El-Yakub disclosed that the council reviewed and adopted most recommendations contained in two separate White Paper reports presented before it.
He explained that one of the reports stemmed from an investigative panel set up by Governor Bala Mohammed to probe the alleged abuse of administrative and financial procedures, including unauthorised loans and financial transactions linked to the tenure of a former Accountant General of the state.
According to the attorney general, the panel uncovered alleged financial losses amounting to several billions of naira, prompting the government to approve disciplinary measures, institutional reforms, possible prosecution and recovery actions against individuals and institutions found culpable.
He assured residents that modalities for the recovery process will soon be made public and stressed that all recovered funds will be transparently managed and channelled towards the development of the state.
“The monies recovered will be duly accounted for and utilised for the good of the state,” El-Yakub said.
The commissioner added that the council approved the White Paper report on the visitation panel to Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), with directives for the immediate implementation of recommendations concerning salaries, pensions, staff unionism, and the overall administration of the institution.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Works, Professor Saul Titus Ketkuka, announced that the council ratified 19 road and infrastructure projects across the state after completing due process requirements through the ministry of works.ing eco
