Says litigation not an option for aggrieved members
Amidst the discontent trailing the outcome of the primaries conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that produced its candidates for elective offices in next general elections, the party has said efforts to placate aggrieved aspirants are still ongoing.
Honourable Bala Ibrahim, Director of Publicity, APC made the clarification at the weekend in a telephone interview with Nigerian Tribune.
The APC Director of Publicity said the party made provisions for reconciliation committees, prior to conduct of primaries to allow those who may feel aggrieved with the results of the elections to close ranks with the winners.
He said: “Prior to the sale of nomination forms, the party made it clear that it is going to be a contest. There is bound to be winners and losers.
“Now, the important thing is for contestants to show the spirit of sportsmanship that he either wins or loses.
“Again, it is expected that those who lost, once they believe in the credibility of the process, would abide by the outcome and congratulate the winner.
“So, the party anticipated a situation that some people will not be happy and that’s why we had reconciliation committees.
“The contestants are made to understand that there must be winners and losers in a contest. The party will continue to appeal to them to continue to have confidence in its internal process that it has put in place.”
On the decisions of approaching court by certain aspirants to challenge the outcome of the primaries in certain states, he said the party would not take kindly to such move by aspirants that fail to utilise its internal conflict resolution mechanisms.
Asked if such individuals would be reprimanded, Honourable Ibrahim said: “That’s for the APC National Working Committee to decide.”
