The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Osun State, Prince Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, has stepped down from the August 15 governorship race and declared his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji.

Adeyemi-Doro announced his decision at a press conference in Osogbo on Saturday, urging his supporters and members of APGA to back Oyebamiji in the forthcoming election.

The former APGA flag bearer said the decision followed extensive consultations with the leadership and members of the party across the state.

He said the consultations involved the state chairman, secretary and other senior party officials, adding that the discussions culminated in a decision to work with Oyebamiji and the APC.

Adeyemi-Doro explained that his decision was also based on his assessment of the various candidates in the race, saying the alignment reflected what he described as a shared progressive orientation.

He expressed confidence that the political collaboration would strengthen Oyebamiji’s chances of emerging victorious at the poll.

Responding to the development, Oyebamiji welcomed the endorsement and assured Adeyemi-Doro and members of APGA of an inclusive administration if elected governor.

The APC candidate said his campaign remained open to cooperation with political groups and individuals committed to the development of Osun State.

He assured APGA supporters that they would be carried along, while appealing to members of other political parties to join hands with his campaign in the interest of the state.

“We will work together to rescue Osun State from the current bad government,” Oyebamiji said.

Also present at the event was the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Protocol, Ambassador Issah Adedotun Niniola, who described Adeyemi-Doro’s decision as a significant development ahead of the election.

Niniola commended the former APGA candidate for what he described as a strategic political decision and expressed optimism that the development would boost Oyebamiji’s chances in the August 15 governorship election.

He further said the alliance could have implications beyond the immediate governorship contest, expressing confidence in the APC’s prospects in Osun State and the party’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.
