OBIdient Movement has described the recent attack on its principal, Peter Obi, and other leaders of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), as a clear “assassination attempt”.

National Coordinator of OBIdient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko made this claim on Channels TV’s ‘Sunrise Daily’, a programme monitored by TRIBUNE ONLINE on Wednesday.

Tanko recounted how the attack unfolded at the residence of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, located in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Benin City.

According to him, the assailants followed the delegation to Oyegun’s residence after an earlier engagement in the state.

“It’s clear to me that it was just an attempt at assassination because they followed us down to Oyegun’s house at GRA in Benin,” Tanko said.

He explained that after a prior meeting, the team proceeded to Oyegun’s residence, where they were briefed on the event schedule before moving to the main venue, described as a three-storey building.

Tanko stated that the programme was concluded without incident and the delegation departed peacefully. However, about five minutes after they left the venue, an attack was reportedly carried out at the location.

“Footage showed significant damage,” he said, adding that the team later returned to Oyegun’s residence.

He further alleged that despite expectations of heavy security presence at the GRA, gunshots were suddenly heard in the area, heightening tension among those present.
