Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has joined the global community in celebrating women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, commending their contributions to societal development.

The party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, on Sunday, praised the resilience, strength and achievements of women, describing them as central to the growth of families, communities and the economy.

Oladejo said successive APC-led administrations in the state had implemented deliberate policies and programmes aimed at empowering women and expanding opportunities for them.

According to him, Lagos has maintained one of the highest levels of female representation in public service, with women serving as commissioners, permanent secretaries, legislators, special advisers, heads of government agencies and judges of the High Court.

He said the development reflects the party’s belief that inclusive leadership strengthens governance and policy outcomes.

Oladejo also noted that thousands of women entrepreneurs, traders and artisans have benefited from empowerment initiatives, including microcredit schemes, capacity-building programmes and cooperative support structures.

“These initiatives have supported women across markets, small businesses and the creative industry, strengthening household incomes and contributing to the state’s economic growth,” he said.

He added that the state government has continued to implement policies aimed at protecting women from abuse, improving access to healthcare and promoting girl-child education.

Oladejo said women in agriculture, technology, education and the creative economy have also benefited from training programmes, grants and innovation support initiatives designed to enhance productivity and enterprise.

He described the initiatives as evidence of the party’s commitment to gender inclusion and women’s empowerment as key drivers of sustainable development.

“On this International Women’s Day, the Lagos APC reaffirms its commitment to policies that promote women’s participation in governance, expand economic opportunities and ensure that every girl has the chance to achieve her dreams,” he said.

The party also congratulated women across Lagos and Nigeria for their resilience and contributions to national development.
