The organisers of the Nigeria Spelling Bee have opened registration for the next edition of the competition, with eligible pupils and students across the country invited to apply. Participants who emerge as winners will receive scholarships, cash prizes and the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee.
The organisers announced the registration on the official Nigeria Spelling Bee portal, stating that both individual participants and school groups can apply.
“Get ready to embark on an exciting journey of language and literacy excellence. Whether you’re registering as a student or a school group, this is the first step toward showcasing your spelling skills on a national stage,” the organisers said.
They added, “Complete the registration form from the links below to secure your spot in the competition and get closer to winning amazing prizes, including scholarships and the chance to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee.”
Eligibility
The organisers asked parents and schools to ensure that participants meet the competition’s eligibility requirements before registering.
“Before proceeding with your registration, please ensure that you (or your students) meet all the eligibility requirements for the Nigeria Spelling Bee,” the statement read.
“To avoid disqualification, we encourage you to review the Eligibility Page thoroughly before completing your registration.”
How to register
The registration fee is ₦5,000 per participant.
Payments can be made through bank deposits, bank transfers, ATMs or approved gift vouchers.
After making payment, applicants are required to complete the online registration form. The organisers said each participant must be registered separately.
“Each speller must be registered separately.”
Every successful applicant will receive a Unique Speller-ID, which will be used throughout the competition.
“After registering, each speller will receive a Unique Speller-ID. This ID will be used to identify them during the competition.”
Participants are expected to keep their proof of payment and present it alongside their confirmation slip at the competition venue.
“Keep your deposit slip safe, as you will need it for the online registration form and to present on the competition day,” the organisers stated.
The organisers also advised applicants not to share their payment details.
“Ensure your payment details are secure. Nigeria Spelling Bee is not responsible for any issues arising from sharing or exposing your payment information,” the organisers said.
They added that participants who register late or at the competition venue, where allowed, will pay an extra ₦1,000, bringing the total registration fee to ₦6,000.
The organisers also reminded applicants that registration must be completed online before participants can receive their Speller IDs and competition materials, adding that registration fees are non-refundable.
Prizes
The organisers said winners will receive scholarships, cash rewards and international opportunities.
The National Champion in the Senior category will receive a ₦1 million scholarship, while the Junior category champion will receive a ₦500,000 scholarship.
The winner of the Primary category will receive a cash prize of ₦150,000.
All finalists will qualify to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee. National champions will also become Nigeria Spelling Bee ambassadors for life and receive trophies and medals.
Opportunity for schools
Schools interested in hosting the competition have also been invited to apply.
“Your school may apply to host the Competition in its premises,” the organisers said.
They added that schools registering more than 10 participants could contact the organisers to get details of available bulk registration discounts.
