The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the public display of the personal particulars and academic credentials submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general election.

The exercise, which began on Saturday, features the documents submitted by Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and his running mate, Shettima, as part of the electoral process.

Tinubu’s Form EC9 showed that he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University in the United States. His academic transcript indicated that the degree was awarded “with honours” on June 22, 1979.

The documents also included his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate, showing that he served in Oyo State from December 1982 before completing the programme in November 1983.

According to the form, Tinubu worked at Mobil Nigeria Limited between 1983 and 1992, leaving the company on account of “advancement.” It also stated that he served in the Lagos State Government from 1999 to 2007 until the “legal end of tenure” and has been in the service of the Federal Government of Nigeria since 2023.

The form recorded “0000” as the years of attendance for his primary and secondary education, while only his university qualification, a B.Sc obtained in 1979, was listed.

His personal details identified his date of birth as March 29, 1952, with his age recorded as 74. The documents also listed Lagos as his place of birth, No. 4, Queen’s Drive, Ikoyi, as his residential address, and “politician” as his occupation.

The credentials submitted by Shettima provided details of his educational journey from primary school.

His Certificate of Primary Education, issued by the Ministry of Education, North-Eastern State, showed that he attended Lamisula I Primary School between 1972 and 1978. The certificate indicated that he graduated second in a class of 22 pupils, with English, History and Religious Knowledge identified as his strongest subjects.

His West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result from Government Secondary School, Potiskum, obtained in June 1983, showed six credits and passes, including a distinction in Religious Knowledge and Economics.

The records further showed that he earned a Second Class Upper Division degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri in August 1989 before obtaining a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan.

His NYSC discharge certificate indicated that he completed national service between October 1989 and October 1990.

INEC said the publication of the documents, contained in Form EC9, is in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which requires the commission to display candidates’ personal particulars within 21 days of receiving them.

The commission explained that Form EC9 contains the credentials, personal particulars and affidavits submitted by candidates seeking elective offices.

“Form EC9 contains the credentials, personal particulars and affidavits submitted by candidates sponsored by political parties,” INEC stated.

The commission displayed the documents at its offices across the country.
