The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has promised to review and begin paying outstanding entitlements owed to active and retired workers if elected governor in the August 15 governorship election.
Oyebamiji made the promise recently while interacting with senior journalists in Lagos on his ambition and plans for the state.
He said his administration would, within its first 100 days, conduct a comprehensive review of outstanding entitlements owed to serving and retired workers and begin immediate payment.
The APC candidate also promised to ensure that the Dagbolu Dry Port becomes fully operational, while using strategic partnerships to train and empower at least 10,000 young people in information and communication technology.
He said his administration would institutionalise monthly meetings of the State Security Council involving security agencies, traditional rulers and local government leaders.
According to him, the government would also launch pilot off-grid renewable energy projects in selected public institutions and rural communities, as well as undertake a comprehensive review of the state’s fiscal sustainability, covering revenue, expenditure and debt obligations.
Oyebamiji said the proposed initiatives were achievable within the first 100 days, citing his experience and commitment to public service.
He added that his administration would conduct a state-wide infrastructure audit to identify priority economic roads and other critical infrastructure needs.
On his chances of defeating the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, Oyebamiji said the APC had the numerical strength to win the election.
He argued that many of those who supported Adeleke during the 2022 governorship election had now joined the APC, adding that the margin between the two sides in the previous election was only four per cent.
The APC candidate also said the number of people who had moved from the incumbent’s camp to the APC was significant and would strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.
He maintained that the incumbent would not be the first sitting governor to lose power in Osun State, adding that the APC at both the national and state levels was prepared to deploy its resources, experience and personnel towards securing victory.
Oyebamiji expressed confidence that the APC would return to government in Osun State with the support of party members and residents, saying the party, its campaign organisation and the people of the state were prepared for the election.
He said, “By the grace of God, once the good people of Osun hand me the mandate, we will, in line with our campaign promises, within our first one hundred days in office, undertake a comprehensive review of all outstanding entitlements owed to active and retired workers and commence immediate payment. We are equally committed to ensuring that the Dagbolu Dry Port becomes fully operational. In addition to these, through strategic partnerships, we will commence the training and empowerment of not fewer than 10,000 young people in information and communication technology. We will also institutionalise monthly meetings of the State Security Council involving security agencies, traditional rulers, and local government leaders. Furthermore, we will launch pilot off-grid renewable energy projects in selected public institutions and rural communities. Similarly, we will conduct a comprehensive fiscal sustainability review covering state revenue, expenditure, and debt obligations.”
