The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Osun State, Adebayo, who withdrew from the race a few hours before the election, has hailed the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing him as truly a man of the people.
Recall that Adebayo announced his decision to withdraw from the governorship race on Thursday during a press briefing in Osogbo, saying the decision was taken in the best interest of the state and to deepen democracy in Osun.
In a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, he noted that the outcome of the election reflected the will of the Osun people and their desire for continuity and good governance.
“I congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory. The people have spoken and their voice must be respected. Governor Adeleke has proven himself to be truly a man of the people through his policies and direct connection with the masses,” Adebayo said.
He noted that democracy is at its best when leaders prioritise the welfare of citizens above personal or partisan interests, adding that the Adeleke administration had demonstrated that commitment over the last four years.
According to him, the governor’s focus on infrastructure, health, education, workers’ welfare and grassroots empowerment shows a government that understands the needs of ordinary Osun people.
“Elections are over and governance must begin in earnest. Osun needs stability to consolidate the gains already recorded. That is why people across party lines are rallying behind the governor,” he added.
Adebayo, however, called on his supporters and members of the APM across the 30 local government areas of the state to embrace peace and support initiatives aimed at moving the state forward.
