The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated an eight-member state congress committee ahead of the congresses scheduled for September.
According to the party’s publicity secretary, Segun Dipe, the committee, chaired by Chief Alaba Abejide, was charged with overseeing and coordinating a transparent, credible and inclusive congress process across the state.
Other members of the committee include Karounwi Oladapo, who will serve as secretary; Hon. Aladegbami; Barr. Ade Omonijo; Hon. Femi Awe; Mr Mike Akinleye; Chief (Mrs) Ronke Okunsanya, representing women; and Chief Kemi Olaleye.
Inaugurating the committee, the State Party Chairman, Sola Elesin, urged members to carry out their assignment with fairness, diligence and respect for all tendencies within the APC.
He emphasised that party discipline remains the prerogative of the party and called on the committee to operate strictly within the APC constitution, guidelines and directives.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Abejide thanked the party leadership and the governor for the confidence reposed in them.
He assured the party that the committee would not fail in its mandate and would immediately begin wide-ranging consultations with stakeholders.
“We are prepared to move out, to consult, to dialogue,” Abejide said.
Also speaking, the secretary, Oladapo, expressed gratitude to Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the party leadership, pledging that the committee would discharge its duties diligently and justify the trust placed in them.
Immediately after the inauguration, the committee swung into action and commenced work.
“Members are expected to embark on consultations and dialogue with stakeholders across all federal constituencies to ensure a smooth, credible and orderly state congress,” the party’s spokesman said.
