Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has denied claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the party supported his victory in last Saturday’s governorship election, insisting that there was no electoral deal or partnership between his administration and the party before, during or after the poll.
Adeleke, who attributed his re-election to God and the people of Osun State, said the ADC was not part of the political alliance that mobilised support for his successful bid to retain the governorship seat.
The governor said this in a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.
He said: “It was necessary to clarify the issue to set the record straight, particularly following claims by the ADC regarding its alleged contribution to his electoral victory.
“I commend political partners who went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. But we must clarify for the sake of history that ADC was never part of the alliance,” Adeleke said.
He expressed appreciation to the political groups and individuals who, according to him, made sacrifices towards ensuring his victory at the poll, saying their support reflected the collective desire of the people for the continuation of his administration.
The governor, who was re-elected in the August 15 election, said the outcome should now mark the beginning of a new phase beyond partisan politics, with his administration committed to serving all residents of the state.
Adeleke therefore declared that he would govern all Osun residents irrespective of their political affiliations, religious backgrounds or ethnic identities, stressing that the election was over and the state must now unite for development.
“Now that the election is over, I am a governor of all Osun people irrespective of political groups, religion or race,” he said.
