Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja as he continued consultations following his re-election in the August 15 governorship election.
The meeting came shortly after Adeleke held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he presented his certificate of return and expressed appreciation for the conduct of the election.
A photograph of Adeleke’s meeting with Wike was shared on X by the minister’s media aide, Lere Olayinka. The image showed the governor and the FCT minister shaking hands while holding Adeleke’s certificate of return.
Olayinka captioned the photograph, “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.”
Earlier, Adeleke arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 5:20–5:25 p.m. in traditional attire, accompanied by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and several Osun State officials, including his campaign director-general and chief of staff.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Adeleke said he visited Tinubu to appreciate him for allowing the electoral process to take place without interference.
The governor described Tinubu as the “father of the nation” and said the President’s respect for democracy contributed to the conduct of what he regarded as a free and fair election.
“Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr. President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy.
“That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria,” the governor said.
Adeleke contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party and was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission with 511,067 votes.
He defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes.
The governor won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas in the election.
