The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed its candidates across the country to commence campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, in line with the election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party also announced plans to inaugurate its various campaign committees as it begins preparations for the elections.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC directed candidates contesting the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and State Assembly elections to begin consultations, sensitisation and familiarisation engagements with constituents immediately.
The party urged its candidates to work closely with stakeholders at the state, local government and ward levels to organise campaign programmes and activities that would promote their candidacies and communicate the party’s political message to voters.
“To all candidates, we are directing that they begin their familiarisation, sensitisation and consultations. Similarly, local campaign events can now continue,” the statement said.
The party said it would soon release the composition of its campaign organs and announce a date for their formal inauguration.
It further directed state and local government chapters, as well as ward structures, to develop itineraries for local campaigns and commence engagements with voters.
The NDC said the campaign would be anchored on its ideology of grassroots participation and issue-based politics, stressing that its candidates must focus on presenting solutions to the challenges confronting Nigerians.
“In keeping with the ideology of NDC, the party reiterates that all campaigns must be issue-based and devoid of violence and foul language. The NDC has no room for violence,” the statement added.
The party also clarified the status of its logo ahead of the commencement of campaign activities.
According to the NDC, it had consulted with INEC over a modification of its logo and formally notified the electoral body of the proposed change.
The party said the modification was discussed at a meeting attended by INEC, but that some administrative processes were still being resolved before the new logo could officially replace the existing one.
“Until then, however, we enjoin all our candidates and members to continue to use the old logo, which is also the two-finger victory sign, for campaign purposes for now, pending the conclusion of all engagements and arrangements with INEC on the replacement,” the statement said.
The party urged its candidates and members to comply with the directive while discussions with INEC on the replacement of the logo continue.
The development marks the beginning of the NDC’s nationwide campaign activities as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
