Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has condemned the killing of social media political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, in Kano State.
Kwankwaso, in a statement posted on his Facebook page, said he was deeply disturbed by the death of Dan Shagamu, whose body was reportedly found in a pool of blood at his residence in Kano.
He described the incident as a horrific attack and called on the Kano State Government to immediately constitute an investigative panel to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and bring those responsible to justice.
“Dan Shagamu was brutally slaughtered in a horrific attack. I strongly urge the Kano State Government to immediately constitute an investigative panel to thoroughly probe this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Kwankwaso said.
The former Kano State governor warned that if the authorities failed to take decisive and transparent action, an incoming NDC administration would investigate the matter upon assuming office.
He said such an investigation would be aimed at ensuring that those responsible for the killing were held accountable.
Kwankwaso also appealed to the state and Federal Governments to strengthen the protection of opposition voices across the country.
He noted that freedom of expression was guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution and argued that the right should protect citizens from threats, attacks and intimidation.
“The Nigerian authorities must ensure a full investigation and that those responsible are held accountable,” he added.
