Police and other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) have finalised security arrangements for Saturday’s Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area State Constituency by-election in Kano.
The ICCES reached the decision at a strategic security meeting chaired by the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, ahead of the September 19, 2026 poll.
The meeting reviewed security plans and intelligence reports, identified potential flashpoints and assessed logistics required to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.
CP Bakori said adequate personnel, intelligence assets and operational resources had been deployed to polling units, collation centres and other strategic locations across the constituency.
He assured voters, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers and other stakeholders of maximum security before, during and after the election.
The commissioner said the police would work closely with sister security agencies to safeguard the electoral process and ensure a peaceful and credible exercise.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner and ICCES Chairman in Kano, Amb. Zango Abdu, said INEC had also completed arrangements for the election, including the deployment of sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials.
The committee resolved to intensify joint patrols, strengthen rapid-response mechanisms and monitor social media platforms to tackle misinformation capable of causing tension during the election
.
It also pledged to enforce electoral laws strictly and take action against individuals found violating the law.
The police urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to shun violence, vote-buying and other acts capable of disrupting the election.
Residents of Dawakin Kudu were equally advised to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
