The presidential running mate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has explained why he believes President Bola Tinubu’s removal of the fuel subsidy created an economic mess in Nigeria.
Kwankwaso said Tinubu removed the subsidy immediately without putting measures in place to cushion the effects on Nigerians.
He said the decision was taken without considering its possible consequences, which, according to him, contributed to the country’s economic difficulties.
Speaking on Arise Television on Wednesday, the former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) said the subsidy removal was carried out without any cushioning effects.
“Bola Tinubu decided to remove the subsidy and the consequences we thought would happen certainly happened.
“He removed it immediately.without looking at all the possible issues. That is how we found ourselves in this total mess economically,” he said.
Kwankwaso also insisted that Nigerians deserve to buy fuel at a cheaper price.
