… commences full, discreet investigations

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the murder of Jemimah Dutse, a former Zonal Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi South.

The command said Dutse was attacked and killed at her residence in Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, Bauchi.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, adding that detectives had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to him, “On 3rd October, 2026, at about 1407 hrs, a 49-year-old man of Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, reported at the ‘E’ Division that the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered in a pool of blood inside her residence at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, with her throat slit by yet-to-be-identified assailant(s).”

Habib said detectives attached to the E Division visited the scene, documented the area, and evacuated the body to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical examination and autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, subsequently directed that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation.

The police said the investigation was aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the murder and apprehending those responsible.

The command commiserated with the deceased’s family, friends, and political associates, assuring the public that it would work to ensure that justice was served.

Meanwhile, the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement, Bauchi State Chapter, has condemned the killing and called on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident.

In a statement dated October 4, 2026, signed by the Bauchi State Coordinator, Nazif Bashi, the group expressed shock over Dutse’s death and commiserated with her family, friends, and associates.

The movement described the killing as a “senseless act of violence” and expressed concern over the safety of residents in the state.

It said, “A society where citizens regardless of their political affiliations, gender, or status, cannot feel safe in their own homes is one on the brink of breakdown.”

The group said the attack was not only against Dutse and her family but also against the peace, security, and democratic fabric of Bauchi State.

It called on the Bauchi State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.

The movement also demanded the immediate constitution of a “dedicated, high-powered investigative panel” to investigate the murder.

It urged the security agencies to maintain transparent communication with Dutse’s family and the public by providing timelines and periodic updates on the progress of the investigation.

The group further called on the Bauchi State Government and security authorities to strengthen local security measures, surveillance, and intelligence gathering across the Bauchi metropolis and neighboring local government areas.

According to the movement, such measures were necessary to address what it described as a rising tide of violent attacks in the state.

It also appealed to civil society organisations, trade unions, human rights defenders, and residents of Bauchi State to demand accountability until those responsible for Dutse’s death were arrested and prosecuted.

The group said, “Justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done. Those responsible for this murder must be brought to book and face the full wrath of the law to serve as a stern deterrent to criminal elements across the state.”

It concluded, “The Take-It-Back Movement reaffirms its commitment to advocating for the rights, safety, and justice of all citizens. Silence in the face of tyranny and insecurity is complicity.”
