Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has said he would take full charge of his administration if elected president in the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the declaration while discussing the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and what he described as its failure to effectively tackle corruption.
In an interview with the BBC, Obi said Buhari was not fully in control of his administration, insisting that his own approach would be different.
“He (Buhari) was not in charge. The difference is that I would be in charge,” Obi said.
He also pledged to tackle corruption and restore the fuel subsidy if elected president.
According to him, corruption, rather than the subsidy itself, remains the major problem affecting the system.
“From day one, I talked about subsidy. Corruption is the problem with subsidy. I will remove the corruption and return the subsidy.
“If you are not stealing, if you are not involved, and your wife and family are not involved, then you reduce it by 50 per cent.
“If I win, I’ll bring back the fuel subsidy and remove the corruption. I talked about corruption. Corruption is the problem. So, if I win, I’ll bring back the fuel subsidy and remove the corruption,” he said.
