The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, (ISIEC), has announced Saturday, November 7, 2026, as the new date for the conduct of Local Government Council elections in Imo State.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the Commission, Chief Charles Ejiogu.
According to ISIEC, the new date follows the earlier postponement of the elections scheduled for September 26 and a series of consultations with the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Imo State Chapter.
The Chairman said an expanded stakeholders’ meeting would be announced soon, during which the amended election timetable and electoral guidelines arising from the postponement would be released.
ISIEC apologised to political parties, chairmanship and councillorship aspirants, stakeholders and the general public for the inconvenience caused by the postponement.
The Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a peaceful, transparent and credible Local Government Council election across the state.
