The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation has called on Nigerians, particularly the youths, to approach the forthcoming season of campaigns with maturity, wisdom, and a deep sense of responsibility.
This was contained in a statement issued by Abubakar Gambo Umar, Director-General, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation and made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Monday.
In a message, the Foundation reminded citizens that the election period is a critical moment that demands patriotism and restraint from all stakeholders.
The Foundation specifically charged the youth to be sensible and disciplined as they campaign and support candidates of their choice.
It cautioned young people not to allow themselves to be drawn into any activity that breaks the law or threatens the peaceful coexistence that the North is known for.
“Political opponents are not enemies to be fought, insulted or destroyed. They are fellow citizens with different views and a shared commitment to the progress of our nation. Your lives, your education and your future matter far more than any temporary political victory,” the statement noted.
The Foundation also called on parents and guardians to keep a close watch over their sons and daughters during this period.
It urged parents not to allow their children to be used as political thugs or tools of violence, but to guide them firmly towards education, honest trade, acquisition of skills and other productive engagements that build lasting success rather than short-lived trouble.
Reiterating its concern for the future of young people, the Foundation advised young people to plan seriously for their tomorrow by staying away from drugs, gangs and every form of crime.
“Your parents need you. Your communities need you. Arewa needs you alive, educated and useful,” the Foundation stated.
The Foundation concluded with a call on all Northerners to consciously choose peace, order and progress as the region enters another defining political season.
