A retired but ailing teacher in Bauchi State, on Friday, received his gratuity cheque at his residence in Ningi Local Government Area after health challenges prevented him from travelling to the state capital to collect his entitlement.
The gesture followed a directive by the State Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, to ensure that retirees who are unable to travel due to health conditions receive their gratuity payments.
The Bauchi State Gratuity Payment Committee visited Malam Haruna Alhaji Sabo at his residence in Unguwar Ganji, Ningi, where he was verified and presented with his cheque.
Sabo retired from the Bauchi State civil service, where he served as a teacher under the Ministry of Education.
Speaking during the presentation, a member of the committee and Managing Director of the Bauchi Markets and Terminal Management Company Limited, Alhaji Muhammad Kabir Sizwe, said the visit was carried out in line with the governor’s directive to reach retirees who cannot travel to Bauchi because of health challenges.
Sizwe added that the Governor had also provided a letter of appreciation to recognise the retiree’s meritorious service to the state.
He disclosed that the committee would commence gratuity payments for the 2014 and 2015 batches of retirees next week.
In his response, Sabo expressed gratitude to the Governor and the committee for bringing his entitlement to his doorstep despite his health condition.
He also prayed for Allah’s guidance and assistance for the Governor and wished him the best in his future endeavours.
