Member representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, has commissioned the newly constructed Okeaga Road in Odo-Ere, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, reaffirming his commitment to infrastructural development and improved living conditions for his constituents.
The commissioning represents another milestone in ongoing efforts to improve road connectivity across the federal constituency, with the lawmaker emphasising the importance of accessible roads in promoting economic growth, facilitating commercial activities and strengthening rural communities.
Speaking at the event, Abejide described road infrastructure as a critical component of sustainable development, noting that good roads improve access to markets, ease transportation and create opportunities for residents to engage in productive economic activities.
He said the commissioning was not merely about opening a road to public use but also about demonstrating how purposeful leadership could translate development plans and promises into tangible projects that directly benefit the people.
“Today, our gathering goes beyond the commissioning of a road. We are here to celebrate vision translated into reality, promises transformed into tangible outcomes, and leadership measured by impact,” he said.
The lawmaker explained that road construction and rehabilitation had remained key priorities of his legislative representation, stressing that effective transportation networks were essential to the social and economic advancement of rural communities.
According to him, several roads across the constituency have either been rehabilitated or are undergoing construction, while additional projects are at various stages of implementation.
He assured the people that more interventions would be pursued to address infrastructure deficits and improve the quality of life of residents across Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro local government areas.
Abejide also drew attention to the ongoing construction of the Oja Opè project in Odo-Ere, describing the proposed ultra-modern market as another important investment expected to stimulate commercial activities in the area.
The market, situated around the Okeaga axis, was said to be approximately 90 per cent complete at the time of the announcement.
When completed, the facility is expected to provide open and enclosed shops, alongside other amenities designed to accommodate traders, attract customers and create a more organised environment for commercial activities.
The market project is expected to complement the newly commissioned Okeaga Road by improving access to the trading centre and facilitating the movement of goods, traders and customers.
The combination of improved road access and modern market facilities is expected to strengthen local commerce and create additional opportunities for economic activities in Odo-Ere and neighbouring communities.
Abejide reiterated his determination to sustain efforts aimed at addressing the infrastructure needs of his constituents, noting that rural development requires deliberate investments that respond to the everyday challenges facing local communities.
He added that improved transportation infrastructure could reduce movement difficulties, expand access to commercial centres and help farmers, traders and other residents connect more easily with markets and essential services.
The commissioning ceremony attracted political leaders, community representatives and other stakeholders from Yagba West, alongside residents who gathered to witness the formal opening of the road.
The Okeaga Road project, alongside the ongoing Oja Opè market development, underscores the role of infrastructure investment in improving rural accessibility, supporting commercial activities and advancing community development across Yagba Federal Constituency.
