The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted a four-man strategic committee to reclaim the three National Assembly seats in Jigawa Central Senatorial District currently controlled by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections.
The committee, headed by the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, is expected to develop strategies for mobilising voters and strengthening the party ahead of the elections.
Governor Umar Namadi disclosed this while addressing APC stakeholders in Miga Local Government Area of the state.
The governor, who was represented by Dangyatin, said the APC was determined to regain the senatorial and two House of Representatives seats lost to the PDP during the 2023 general elections.
According to him, the party had begun preparations to ensure victory in the district, adding that the committee would embark on consultations across the senatorial district to mobilise party leaders and grassroots supporters.
Other members of the committee are the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Senator Mustapha Makama Kiyawa; and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ibrahim Babangida Umar Gantsa.
Dangyatin said the committee would engage party leaders at the polling unit, ward and local government levels as part of efforts to restore unity and strengthen grassroots mobilisation.
He said the APC had been gaining momentum following the defection of opposition politicians and their supporters to the ruling party.
He cited the recent defection of a former Jahun Local Government Council chairman, a former House of Representatives candidate and hundreds of their supporters from the PDP to the APC.
“The party is gaining weight and the green light of success is becoming evident with the massive defection of members of opposition parties to the APC,” he said.
The Speaker urged the people of Miga and other communities in the district to vote massively for APC candidates from the presidential to the state House of Assembly elections in 2027.
He said the Namadi administration had executed several projects and programmes in the area, including road construction, education, skills acquisition and employment opportunities.
Dangyatin also attributed the APC’s defeat in the district during the 2023 elections to internal disagreements, saying the ongoing consultations would help reconcile members and rebuild the party’s unity.
He said the committee members were selected because of their political experience, grassroots mobilisation capacity and understanding of the political dynamics of the state.
The APC chairman in the state, Ahmed Garba Maikudi, represented by his deputy, Nasiru Dahiru Jahun, commended party leaders in the district for beginning early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Jahun also called on Nigerians, particularly those in the North, to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid to complete two terms in office.
He argued that the North should allow the South to complete its eight-year tenure, just as northern leaders had previously enjoyed the support of southern political leaders.
He warned that any attempt to disrupt the established political arrangement could create discontent and further tension in the country’s political environment.
