…congratulate Senator Adeola

Two governorship aspirants in Ogun State, Senator (Professor) Iyabo Obasanjo and Otunba Tunji Oredipe, have accepted the decision taken by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the announcement of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Recall that Governor Dapo Abiodun, during a strategic caucus meeting of the party held on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta, which had in attendance former governors of the state, Chief Olusegun Osoba; Senators Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun; and other chieftains and leaders of the APC, announced Adeola as the party’s candidate for the governorship election.

Obasanjo, in a message, announced the suspension of her consultations towards the governorship race.

She appreciated the national and state leaders of the party for the opportunity given to her to participate in the nomination process.

“At the Ogun APC caucus meeting held today, April 13, 2026, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) was announced as the consensus candidate of our party for the 2027 gubernatorial election. I congratulate him and wish him every success.

“I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.

“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.

“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength, and hope.”

In the same vein, Oredipe, a senior agricultural economist with the World Bank from Ogun East extraction, said he has accepted the party’s decision with respect and humility.

While thanking his supporters for keeping faith in his mission to contest for the exalted seat, he said:

“Your steadfastness, sacrifice, and commitment to our people-centred agenda have been the backbone of this journey. Through every step, you showed what true dedication looks like, and I am deeply grateful.

“The party has spoken, and we accept that decision with respect and humility. This is democracy, and our loyalty to the process and to our people remains unshaken.

“Let me assure you: we will continue to participate fully in the electoral process. We will give our very best support to the party’s candidate to ensure victory for our shared ideals and for the good people of Ogun State.

“Our goal has always been service, and that goal does not change. Together, we move forward,” he added.
