A political support group, the Northern Nigeria Support Group for Seyi Makinde, has organised a special prayer session and a horse race in Kano to canvass support for the Oyo State Governor ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during the event, the National President of the group, Babangida Abubakar Haruna, popularly known as Sardauna, said the initiative was aimed at introducing Governor Seyi Makinde to more Nigerians as a credible presidential candidate capable of transforming the country.
Haruna described Makinde as a governor who had delivered significant achievements during his almost eight years in office in Oyo State, citing infrastructure development and governance as evidence of his leadership capacity.
“We are presenting a brand new candidate that has the capacity to change Nigeria for the better. There are so many things he can do for Nigeria, judging by what he has done in Oyo State,” he said.
According to him, Makinde has demonstrated competence through his administration’s performance, adding that Nigerians should assess his record in Oyo State.
He also commended the governor for remaining loyal to his political party despite what he described as pressure and threats to defect. “Look at his stance.
He is somebody who has not decamped despite threats from the ruling party. We have confidence in him because he is a man of his word, and we are sure he will not betray Nigerians,” Haruna said.
The group leader urged Nigerians to give the Oyo governor an opportunity to lead the country, describing him as a young and experienced politician with a proven track record.
He said the prayer session and horse race were organised to draw the attention of northern Nigerians to Makinde’s leadership qualities, noting that the group believes he enjoys cordial relations with people across the country, including the North.
Haruna called on Nigerians to continue praying for the nation’s future, stressing that political power ultimately comes from God.
“Power comes from God Almighty, and He gives it to whom He wills,” he said.
