Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on political leaders in the North and North-West to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
“For now, we shouldn’t stop deceiving ourselves. We know power will not come back to us now. Power will have to go to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the second term,” Yusuf said.
He argued that, following former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure, political power should remain in the South for a corresponding period.
Yusuf said the presidency should remain in the South for another four years after Tinubu’s tenure, citing what he described as an informal political understanding between northern and southern political interests.
The governor spoke in Kano while receiving 50 branded vehicles donated to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Door-to-Door Campaign Organisation, led by Niger Delta businessman and political figure, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
He said Tinubu had spent about three and a half years in office and should be allowed to complete the South’s eight-year period by securing another term.
Yusuf declared that Kano and the North-West would support Tinubu’s re-election, while urging politicians across the country to ensure peaceful electioneering.
The governor said the 50 vehicles would be deployed to support APC political structures and campaign activities across Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“These vehicles being presented today will be deployed to support our political structures and groups across the state, across the political local government areas, as we prepare for the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement has been conducting grassroots mobilisation for Tinubu’s re-election, including the distribution of campaign vehicles in other northern states.
Yusuf described the Kano donation as a demonstration of commitment to and confidence in the APC and Tinubu’s administration.
He said Kano remained committed to strengthening the APC, engaging the electorate and implementing programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
The governor, however, called for issue-based campaigns ahead of the elections, urging politicians to focus on their programmes and records rather than personal attacks.
“This year’s campaign should be issue-based. What do you have for the good people of the state? What have you done for them? Go around the local governments and tell them what you intend to do or what you did for them when you were in power,” he said.
He also urged political parties and their supporters to shun violence and other criminal activities during the electioneering period.
Yusuf expressed appreciation to Tompolo and the APC delegation for the donation, saying the Kano government and people appreciated the gesture.
He added that the APC would campaign for Tinubu at the presidential level, as well as for its candidates at state and federal levels, in the 2027 elections.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, who spoke on behalf of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, commended the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
He also stated that he was highly impressed by the large number of supporters who witnessed the donation of 50 vehicles by the “Door-to-Door” movement to mobilise grassroots support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Guwor identified the removal of the fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms and ongoing infrastructure projects as some of the major policies of the Tinubu administration.
He cited projects in Kano State, including the rail project and the revamp of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, as examples of infrastructure development under the Federal Government.
He said coordinators and ambassadors would be positioned at ward and polling-unit levels to engage directly with residents and explain the administration’s policies and programmes.
“The plan is that every door will be knocked, every home will be knocked, so that people will give their massive support to Mr President,” he said.
Guwor added that the movement was targeting broad support for Tinubu across the country, although he did not give specific projections for individual states.
He also highlighted the role of young Nigerians in the mobilisation exercise, noting that the movement’s national coordinator was a young person and former student union leader.
According to him, youth participation would remain an important component of the movement as it expanded its structures and grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
