Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has urged Nigerians to support the Obi–Kwankwaso ticket in the 2027 presidential election, saying the country stands at a critical crossroads.

Kwankwaso made the call in a message to Nigerians to mark the official commencement of the 2027 presidential campaign, in which he highlighted the economic, security and social challenges confronting the country.

According to him, the rising cost of food and essential commodities has placed enormous pressure on families, while millions of young Nigerians continue to search for meaningful employment and opportunities. He also noted that businesses were grappling with high operating costs and an uncertain economic environment.

“Millions of young Nigerians are searching for meaningful employment and opportunities, while businesses are struggling with high operating costs and an uncertain economic environment,” he said.

On security, Kwankwaso said insecurity remained a major threat to communities across the country, with terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violence continuing to destroy lives and livelihoods.

He stressed the need to secure rural communities and enable farmers to return safely to their farms, while also ensuring that children have access to safe schools.

“Our farmers need security to return to their farms, our children need safe schools, and every Nigerian deserves to live without fear,” he said.

The former Kano State Governor further called for urgent investment in education and healthcare, alongside improvements in infrastructure and stronger institutions. He also advocated greater transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.

Despite the challenges, Kwankwaso said Nigerians should remain hopeful, arguing that the country possessed the human and natural resources required to build a prosperous and secure nation.

He said what Nigeria needed was leadership with the competence, courage and commitment to put the interests of citizens ahead of personal or sectional considerations.

Explaining his decision to work with former Anambra State Governor and NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Kwankwaso said their partnership was driven by a shared commitment to national development.

“This is why I have chosen to work with His Excellency, Peter Obi, on the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket,” he said.

According to him, the alliance was not based on regional, religious or personal interests but on the objective of rebuilding the country.

“Our partnership is not about region, religion or personal ambition. It is about Nigeria,” he said.

Kwankwaso said the Obi–Kwankwaso ticket envisioned a Nigeria where government would serve the people, hard work would be rewarded and young Nigerians would have opportunities to build successful lives within the country.

He also called on young people, women, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs and professionals to participate actively in the political process and demand accountability from public office holders.

The NDC Vice-Presidential candidate urged Nigerians to move beyond divisive politics and concentrate on issues affecting their daily lives.

“Let us move beyond politics of division and focus on the issues that affect our daily lives. Let us demand accountability, competence and results from those entrusted with public office,” he said.

He described the 2027 election as an opportunity for Nigerians to choose a new direction for the country and urged voters to support the Obi–Kwankwaso ticket as well as other NDC candidates.

Kwankwaso further appealed to political actors and supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and responsibly, with the national interest placed above partisan considerations.

“Let us campaign peacefully, responsibly and with the national interest at heart,” he said, concluding his message with the assurance that Nigerians could collectively build a stronger nation.
